MessaggioOggetto: Bisesi pleads not guilty   Mar Lug 29, 2008 7:42 pm

ELBRIDGE, N.Y. -- It was a crime that shook a small town not used to this grisly an act. Joseph Bisesi Jr. and his wife, JoEllen, both had been shot to death. Their bodies dumped in a septic tank at their home.

Even more shocking was the suspect in the case -- Joseph Bisesi III, their son, who had walked into Onondaga County Sheriff's Department headquarters and confessed to the killings.

Now, a week later, Bisesi was back before a judge to continue his arraignment, with an attorney at his side. Again, he pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder in the first degree. He left, headed back to jail, still with no bail and still not answering the question of why -- why the sudden explosion of violence. But there are hints.

In court, a friend said the Joseph Bisesi standing before the judge was not the same Joseph Bisesi he once knew.

“He got in a bar fight a couple of years back and he said he got brain damage from it,” said Brad Strange.

“How's he been since then?” our reporter asked.

“Not himself. Not the same person,” Strange said.

“A competency exam has been ordered by the court. And the proceedings will be held in abeyance until that competency exam is completed,” said Chief Assistant District Attorney Christine Garvey.

Whether Bisesi has said anything to prosecutors or his own attorney about a motive remains unknown.

“I'm not going to discuss anything about the case,” Defense Attorney Randi Bianco said.

“The case is pending before a grand jury and that's really all I can comment on until the grand jury proceedings are completed,” Garvey said.

Joseph Bisesi Jr. and JoEllen, victims of murder. We know when they died, where they died and how they died. We may have to wait much longer before we know why.

Joseph Bisesi Jr. was 54 and his wife, JoEllen was 53. In addition to their son, they are survived by a daughter and granddaughter.
